On 18 February 2025 EHTEL members gathered for the second meeting of the EHTEL European Health Data Space (EHDS) Implementers' Task Force. This meeting provided an overview of the task force; its process; its outcomes; and five questions that the task force is seeking to answer.

It specifically offered background into the legacies, challenges, and paths to success in two European Member States as they make their way towards implementation of the EHDS.

⚜️ The meeting's report and videos are now available for EHTEL members, on the Member Workspace.

EHTEL set up a European Health Data Space (EHDS) Implementers' Task Force for its members, to help them keep their fingers on the pulse of the latest EHDS developments.

Three main outcomes of the meeting help you to understand the EHDS better

  • The EHDS Regulation was published on 5 March 2025 and entered into force on 25 March 2025.
  • An updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) has been released by the European Commission. It provides answers to the main questions raised by stakeholders on the adopted text. The questions are available to EHTEL members on the Member Workspace.
  • The EHDS specifications for primary use of data are being prepared by the Xt-EHR joint action, and will be considered for eventual use by the European Commission.

A further three observations relate to the task force specifically:

  • The overall objective of the EHTEL EHDS implementers task force is to explore potential transition strategies for compliance with the EHDS specifications related to the primary use of data.

  • Both Finland and Germany rely on international standards which will be in use in the EHDS.

    • Finland - with its mature national electronic health record (EHR) and ePrescribing system.
    • Germany - which is  currently rolling out its national EHR system.
  • How Finland and Germany (and other countries) will implement thetwo “harmonised components” (i.e., logging and interoperability), mentioned in the EHDS, remains an important issue. The topic remains under discussion.

EHTEL members have access to the full report of the meeting and the videos on the EHTEL Member Workspace.

An additional opportunity:

  • EHTEL members and friends are invited to learn about what Xt-EHR is working on and respond to the current Xt-EHR open consultations on the EHTEL Workspace, on two of their deliverables: D8.3 and D5.1 and D5.2.
