Understanding and addressing the emotional, physical, and practical support (including information)Β  requirements for patients with dementia and frailty, as well as their caregivers.

Comfortage

This webinar is part of COMFORTage Community Forum's (CCF) thematic area 1, leaded by EHTEL: "Dementia and Frailty Service Delivery Models for affected patients and their carers.”

This thematic area focuses on innovative approaches to address the unmet needs of individuals affected by dementia and frailty, as well as their carers. By extending autonomy and enhancing quality of life, it paves the way for impactful service delivery models.

This thematic area will be focused on interventions to support people already affected by frailty and dementia and their carers,

In the EU, dementia prevalence in people over 60 increased from 5.9 million in 2000 to about 9.1 million in 2018

According to recent estimates, approximately 40% of dementia cases worldwide could be attributable to 12 modifiable risk factors: low education; midlife hypertension and obesity; diabetes, smoking, excessive alcohol use, physical inactivity, depression, low social contact, hearing loss, traumatic brain injury and air pollution, indicating clear prevention potential. Two additional factors have been recently identified: high cholesterol and vision loss.

However, every person with dementia is unique!

Depending on how they are organised, healthcare systems and organisations have been providing different responses and have been testing and promoting different "packages", including or not digital technologies.

The Industry has also proposed a number of solutions - mainly mobile ones- but have not always found their way to end-users due to lack of evidence on their impact or other reasons.

The quick uptake of AI  may bring new concrete perspectives and may make interventions relevant for a wider number of situations.

The COMFORTage Community Forum is planning:

  • Six 2 hours workshops will be organised from January 2025 on a semestrial basis.
  • Each workshop will deal with one specific topic.
  • Aspects related to Innovative Business Models are included in three topics.
