HealthyCloud stands for European Health Research and Innovation Cloud (HRIC). It is a coordination and support action that helps to foster discussion and supports the European Commission/Europe on uptake of the European Health Data Space.
This European project is actively helping Europeans to make progress on cloud-based health-related research. It focuses on the fact that health data must be oriented towards access to, sharing, and secondary use of data that supports translational, clinical, and epidemiological-population level research. To maximise the impact of health research, HealthyCloud is oriented towards the need to adopt best practices on how to efficiently manage health data.
Among HealthyCloud’s consortium members is the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, an EHTEL member, and two Barcelona-based organisations – a university and a supercomputing centre.

HealthyCloud’s third Stakeholders’ Forum was held in Amsterdam on 9-10 March 2023. Representatives from more than 20 organisations discussed the work of the Health Research Innovation Cloud user communities. In attendance was a representative of EHTEL member, the Casa di Cura IGEA from Milan in Italy.
This interactive, in-person meeting provided a forum to discuss user communities’ feedback on a proposed Strategic Agenda drafted by HealthyCloud. Through a review of the strategic agenda’s contents, the meeting helped to ensure that the eventual strategy will reflect the needs of user communities. The agenda of the strategy will also lead to a specific roadmap.
The event included many presentations and discussions. The event ended with an open discussion on data sharing incentive mechanisms: specifically who, how, why, and how to promote data sharing.
The event’s second day focused on a series of interactive world cafés where participants were divided into small groups to encourage further discussions. Each of the six world cafe sessions were led by a ‘service owner’. The world cafés covered topics like: the legal and regulatory challenges to the use of secondary data in research, and incentive mechanisms.
